“I was so grateful, I got him to autograph the audiobook!”
Lauren is the managing editor of Lytherus, a website that reviews and reports on science fiction/fantasy books, films, TV shows, and comic books. She's also a big fan of the Inheritance Cycle, a four-book series of young adult fantasy novels by Christopher Paolini.
For the release of the fourth and final volume in the series, Lauren had the opportunity to travel to Philadelphia for Paolini's stop there on his book tour. Lauren, who as the editor of Lytherus has been emailing back and forth with Paolini since 2006, was excited for the chance to attend the book talk. And to meet Paolini in person.
There was only one problem: she hadn't finished reading the new book yet.
"The Philadelphia event happened the day after the book was released. I was only three-quarters of the way through the novel!" said Lauren. Wanting to get as close to the finish line as she could before the event, she called Monroeville Public Library "on a whim." If a copy of the novel was available on audiobook, she could listen to the rest of the story during her drive down to Philadelphia.
The Library's copies had only just come in and were still being prepared and processed. Explaining her dilemma to our staff, Lauren was able to get a rush-copy of the audiobook just in time for her trip to Philadelphia. She was absolutely grateful for the staff's help, and for the Library – and so, as a thank you, she asked Paolini himself to autograph the audiobook case before she returned it to the Library.
"Librarians Rock!" she wrote, in the thank-you note she left for the staff – along with the newly-autographed copy of Inheritance. "Thanks for all you do!"
